The Myanmar Garment Manufacturers Association (MGMA) has unveiled its 2025-2034 strategic plan, aiming to strengthen the industry’s global presence with high-quality, value-added products. The plan emphasizes ethical and responsible operations while targeting employment growth of 1.2 to 1.6 million workers over the next decade. The industry is projected to expand into a $15 billion sector by 2034.
Currently valued at approximately $5 billion, Myanmar’s garment industry faces various challenges. The new strategy seeks to foster innovation and collaboration, addressing critical areas such as stakeholder engagement, financial resources, workforce development, technological advancements, and infrastructure enhancement.
Last year, Myanmar’s garment sector generated $4.46 billion in export revenue, reflecting a $750 million year-on-year decline. However, industry leaders remain optimistic about long-term growth, positioning Myanmar as a key player in the global textile and apparel market.
